“Always Wacky;
Sometimes Serious”
Saturday, May 21st,
2016
142 days have lapsed and there are 224 days left
What’s Wacky Today?
Today is the perfect “sometimes serious” and “always wacky”
day because we celebrate Armed Forces Day, which is serious and also it
is National Memo Day and National Waiters and Waitresses Day, which I think is a bit wacky; but important as I'll point out.
Many Americans celebrate
Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and
women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part
of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May.
As far as National Memo Day goes, it falls on Saturday this
year and I’m thinking that most “memos” occur during the usual 5 day business
week so there will probably less memo celebrating; maybe we could take a moment
of silence and be grateful for the guy who “invented” the Post it note. I use those
but always carry a shirt pocket of 3 x 5 cards to be prepared when inspiration
comes to me.
Per the waiters and waitress commemoration I think this is
awesome. Few people work as hard as our servers (especially the good ones). I
can tell you about dining experiences from years ago because they were so
exceptional, and now that I think of it many that weren’t because, well; they
weren’t. As a marketing consultant (and sometimes “restaurant rescue” type of
secret shopper) I probably have a more keen eye for customer service and I know
that every dining experience needs to be an “event”. When you have a server who
has made your experience enjoyable, please tip them well; especially today.
Yesterday you may remember I mentioned in practicing to be a millionaire, you
may want to increase the size of you tip. Today is your chance; why not double
what you usually give in honor of today?
What Wacky happened
on this date in the past?
The Democratic Party holds it first national convention on
this date in 1832. 1881 Clara Barton starts the American Red Cross. CharlesLindbergh lands in Paris which completes the first solo air flight across the
Atlantic, in 1927. In 1970 the U.S. National Guard is mobilized to stop Ohio
State University disturbances.
Who has a birthday
today?
423BC Plato, Greek philosopher
1856 Grace Hoadley Dodge, philanthropist, helped organize
the YWCA
1860 Willem Einthoven, invented the electrocardiogram
1898 Armand Hammer, the “Baking Soda” guy
1917 Raymond Burr,
actor; best known as Perry Mason.
1951 Al Franken, politics
If you were born on this date, you are probably an inventor or entrepreneur (however, you might be able to
earn income, you need help to save it). However, with all that money earned (and
I suppose it also has to do with your personality; you are also able to attract
a great mate).
What’s wacky one
