June 29th is a very busy day! It’s Camera, Hug, International Mud and Waffle Iron Day. The actual Waffle Day I think is some other day; this is in honor of the actual waffle iron. And think about the “camera” and just how far we’ve come with that invention. And come on folks, you can’t tell me that you can’t think of some promotion for your business that has to do with mud? You got one month to think of something and leave it in the comments after this article.

July 29th is National Lasagna Day. I remember when I was first married and told my bride when she served it that my mom used a special kind of cheese when she made hers. It was several National Lasagna Days later before I saw it on my table.

What’s Wacky Today?
Today is International Jazz Day* and Amnesty Day!  Now my research tells me that International Jazz Day was on (and is on) April 30th; maybe we just can’t get enough? Don’t ask me; I just work here. Just to be on the safe side, I think I’ll listen to some good jazz today. Amnesty Day has to do with protecting people’s rights around the world; that’s a big task. What is sometimes a bigger task is to know what a “right” really is. Here in America basic rights include: right to life, to hold property, the right to liberty and pursue happiness. That’s about it (which is a lot). Much of what is going around today as “rights” are things that actually infringe on these basic rights. This weekend we remember who died to defend those rights on Memorial Day.

*Read T-Bone’s quote about blues and jazz below.

Heads Up for Tomorrow: Learn About Composting Day.

What Wacky happened on this date in the past?
In 585 BC a battle outside of Sardis in western Turkey ends in a draw as it is interrupted by a solar eclipse; the Medes and the Lydians must have thought it was a “sign”. We could use more “signs” of peace like that today! On this date in 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte is crowned in Milan, Italy. Congress authorizes Indian “removal” from all states to the western Prairie in 1830. A regiment of African-American recruits called The 54th Massachusetts, left Boston for Hilton Head, South Carolina in 1863. Willie Mays In 1953 the first animated 3-D cartoon in Technicolor premiered; named Melody. We celebrate Amnesty Day today because back in 1953, on today’s date the organization was founded. 1980 First women to graduate from West Point Military Academy happened back in 1980.

Who has a birthday today?
1738 Dr. Joseph Ignace Guillotine, inventor of the Guillotine.
1888 Jim Thorpe, one amazing athlete
1908 Ian Fleming, British novelist who created “James Bond”
1910 T-Bone Walker, blues guitarist and singer
1945 Patch Adams, physician
1971 Marco Rubio, Senator

If you were born today, you probably speak first and then think; and don’t like to be forced to interact in large groups. People born on this date don’t like to go to the doctor. They typically are good with their money, loners and hard workers. They like routine so their marriages are usually those of convenience.
