What Wacky happened on this date in
the past?
In
1098 Christian Crusaders of the First Crusade seize Antioch, Turkey. Hernando
De Soto claims Florida for Spain in 1539. Today California is “claimed” by the
Mexicans. In 1851 the first
baseball uniforms were worn by the New York Knickerbockers.
Approximately
7,000 Union troops are killed within 30 minutes during the Battle of Cold Harbor in
Virginia in 1864.This is a long wait; 1916 Mary Edwards Walker was the first woman to receive the Medal of
Honor had it revoked on this day in 1916 and reinstated in 1977.
Italy’s
dictator Benito Mussolini grants
women the right to vote in 1923. Today Obama seeks to grant convicts and
illegal aliens voting privileges. In 1938 The German Third Reich confiscates what
they called “degenerate art”.
Astronaut
Edward White he exits the Gemini 4 space capsule and becomes the
first American to walk in space in the year 1965. In recent years Obama Administration kills Project Constellation, NASA’s

2016 and 2018 to search for signs of life. 74 American sailors died on
this date in 1969 when the destroyer USS Frank E. Evanswas
cut in two by an Australian aircraft carrier in the South China Sea. Sally Jane
Priesand is ordained at Wise Temple of Cincinnati; Ohio in 1972 becomes the
first U.S. woman Rabbi. .The very sad event when young protestors voiced their
opinions against the Chinese government were literally bulldozed down and
killed in Tiananmen Square on this date in 1989. At least we in the USA still
have the The First Amendment of the United
States Constitution which protects our right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression from
government interference. Ireland
approves the sale of condoms in 1993.

What’s Wacky Today?
Today is National Bubba Day and National Rocky Road Day. First let’s address “Bubba”. Other than a term of affection for a southern cousin (or Uncle) or the famous movie “Bubba Ho-Tep”, I’m not sure. So for my loyal fans who visit here I did a little research into the holiday. OK; just finished my research. It seems that you can act either like a “Bubba” as in Bubba Gump’s Shrimp or a grandmother. You choose.
Heads Up for Tomorrow: National Donut Day, Repeat Day and
National Donut Day.
What Wacky happened on this date in
the past?
Way back in 1537, Pope Paul the third
said “no” to the enslavement of Indians in the New World; I’m not sure what
good that had coming all the way from Rome. Slavery
is prohibited by the New Hampshire constitution in
1783. The
Donati Cometis discovered by Italian astronomer Giovanni Donati in 1858 and
Proctor and Gamble discover the cleanser version in 1956; almost 100 years
later. 1875 is the year that Alexander Graham Bell discovers the principle of sending sound
by wire which was the next step after wireless telegraphy. Telewoman becomes more
advanced with what would soon become the “party line” with phones.
So there were a few things that happened during the years up to 1883, but
notably in this year the first baseball game played under electric lights was
played in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I guess it is true; “invent it” and they will
come.
Pres. Grover Clevelandmarries Miss
Frances Folsom in the White House on this date in 1886; and probably felt like
he was in Folsom from then on, or maybe she did; who knows? Wireless telegraphyis first
patented by Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi in 1896; wireless “telewoman”
was invented much before that. (No letters or emails please).
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, commit their first train robbery in
1899, netting them $30,000. In 1969
the movie grossed $102,308,900;
about the same after taking into account inflation. In 1910 Charles Stewart
Rolls (yep, one of the founders of Rolls-Royce) became the first man to fly an
airplane non-stop across the English Channel both ways. Also that same year, he tragically became
Britain’s first aircraft fatality. In 1924, the United States grants full
citizenship to American Indians; maybe people do listen to the Pope.
The American aircraft carriers
Enterprise (the precursor to U.S. Enterprise???), the Hornet and Yorktown get
into battle positions for the Battle of Midway in 1942. The 400 yard dash has a
new record set by Herb McKenley from Jamaica in 1948. This record was held
until sometime after 2000 when several hundred people simultaneously beat the
record on a Black Friday big box store opening. In 1954 Senator Joseph McCarthy
“charges” that there are communists working in the CIA and atomic weapons
plants; today they also run for office.

Today is Dare
Day and Flip a Coin Day and, I Dare You to Flip a Coin Day; just kidding. Dares
can be dangerous or they can help people change their life for the better hopefully
if the “dare” is for something that is really a motivation; like “I dare you to
ask her out on a date” or “I dare you to ask for a raise”. We just need to be
sensible about things. For the other holiday today, I actually have a coin flip
app on my phone to help me make choices. I don’t often use it but when I do I
usually do 2 out of 3 and use it as a way of “divine direction” when I need to
trust in something outside myself; God.
Heads Up for Tomorrow: National Bubba Day and National Rocky

What Wacky happened on this date in
the past?
In
1638, what was called the “Great Earthquake of Plymouth” happened and is now considered the
greatest earthquake of the 17th century of the U.S. colonies. In 1774 the British government orders
the port of Boston closed. U.S. congressional act on administering oaths
becomes law in 1789; no one knows exactly when this came to have little real
meaning as it seems to today.
Kentuckybecomes the 15th
state in 1792 and four years later Tennessee becomes the 16th U.S.
state. “Don’t give
up the ship!” was yelled out by American navy captain James Lawrence when the
Chesapeake vessel was in a fierce battle against the British in 1812. In 1862
General Robert E. Lee assumed command of the Confederate army. It may be hard
to find pictures of this as those who want to change history have outlawed the
Confederate flag from being displayed just about anywhere.
Thomas Edison is granted his first patent - for an electrical vote
recorder in 1869. Although his vote recorder was a failure and was never used, we
continue to invent new ways to create the illusion that there is no voter
fraud. In 1877
U.S. troops were authorized to pursue bandits into Mexico contrasting with
today’s law officers not being allowed to pursue illegal aliens within our U.S. borders.
In Oklahoma in 1921, a race riot
erupts in Tulsa, and sadly results in the deaths of 85. Sadly still today, we
have riots in communities instead of peaceful protests which are allowed by our
constitution. In 1925Lou Gehrigbegins his
record of 2,130 consecutive major-league games; this fact always needs to be
bigger than, and offer hope to those with,
the dreaded disease associated with his name.Don
Bowden becomes the first American to run a four-minute mile in 1957; after
Roger Bannister of Britain did this three years earlier.
The use of
performance-enhancing drugs is made illegal in bicycle racing in the year 1965.
In 1978 the U.S.
reports finding wiretaps in the American embassy in Moscow; the precursor to today’s
hacking into official emails.
